This is an opportunity to empower young people by being a trusted presence in their lives. As a mentor, you will be matched with a child or young person who may be feeling disconnected from education or community supports.
You will spend meaningful time doing activities that you both enjoy, such as going for a walk, catching a movie, playing sport, or grabbing a bite to eat. Through these regular outings, you will build a safe and supportive relationship where the young person feels encouraged to grow, try new things, and work towards their personal goals.
About the Role:
* Be a consistent presence in a young person's life
* Plan and take part in fun, weekly activities with your mentee
* Support them in building confidence, social skills, and a sense of belonging
* Help them identify goals and celebrate small wins
Your Skills and Qualifications:
* Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with young people from diverse backgrounds
* A non-judgemental approach and understanding of trauma-informed care
* Demonstrated commitment to reflective practice that focuses on strengths and builds capacity of individuals
Qualifications in (or working towards) Psychology, Community Services, Social Work, or similar are highly regarded. You will also need to have relevant certifications, including Safe Environments Through Their Eyes training, First Aid, Working With Children Check, and National Police Clearance.
