Applications are invited for an accredited CREI subspecialty training position that includes an integrated public hospital component, delivered through a unique partnership between:
* Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) – Queensland's largest tertiary women's hospital
* Life Fertility Brisbane – a high-volume, specialist doctor-owned ART unit with on‑site laboratories
* The University of Queensland (UQ) – providing a formal 0.3 FTE academic research appointment
This position has recently received provisional accreditation by the RANZCOG CREI Subspecialty Committee and offers a truly comprehensive clinical, surgical, ART, endocrine, fertility preservation and academic training environment, fulfilling the full scope of CREI curriculum requirements.
Position Summary
The CREI Subspecialty Trainee will work across RBWH (public), Life Fertility (private) and UQ (academic), providing advanced training in reproductive endocrinology, infertility, assisted reproductive technologies, reproductive surgery and fertility preservation.
Under the supervision of A/Prof Devini Ameratunga (Program Director, RBWH/Life Fertility) and A/Prof Akwasi Amoako (RBWH), the trainee will:
* Evaluate, diagnose and manage complex reproductive endocrinology and infertility presentations
* Perform and assist in advanced endoscopic reproductive surgery
* Deliver and coordinate ART cycles within a fully equipped on‑site IVF laboratory
* Provide specialist care within Queensland's statewide fertility preservation service
* Undertake structured weekly CREI education, journal clubs and multidisciplinary teaching
* Complete CREI‑required research through a formal academic appointment with UQ
This is a full‑scope CREI fellowship with comprehensive supervision, high procedural volume and a deliberately structured 3‑site model to ensure broad exposure and excellence in training.

At Life Fertility, the trainee will gain exposure in:
* High‑volume ART care
* Oocyte retrievals, embryo transfers and cycle management
* IUI
* Male infertility, andrology and surgical sperm retrieval (Dr Glenn Wood)
* Laboratory exposure including embryology and vitrification
* CREI‑focused tutorials, journal clubs and education
Formal Academic Appointment – University of Queensland
* 0.3 FTE protected time for research, academic activity and UQ‑affiliated teaching
* Access to UQ's research infrastructure (biostatistics, ethics support, libraries, CRF, data analysis)
* Direct research mentorship from Prof Amoako and A/Prof Ameratunga
* Opportunity to complete their CREI research project
* Dedicated research sessions rostered weekly
This structure ensures adequate time to conceptualise, conduct and complete high‑quality research during training.
The trainee participates in:
* Regular fertility preservation clinics
* Menopause and endocrinology clinics
* Weekly gynae operating lists
* Regular ART procedures at Life Fertility
* REI tutorials and journal clubs
* Spending a week each quarter at Life Fertility in Sydney training with CREI subspecialists (Prof Chapman, A/Prof Deans) for additional exposure in CREI surgery and ART techniques
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality patient care across all domains of reproductive endocrinology and infertility
* Participate in ART procedures including oocyte retrievals, embryo transfers and IUI under supervision
* Manage fertility preservation consultations and urgent oncology referrals
* Assist and perform reproductive surgery, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy
* Engage in regular CREI education, audits and teaching
* Undertake CREI‑mandated research to completion
* Maintain accurate procedural logs and assessments
* Contribute to FRANZCOG registrar teaching and UQ medical student education
Essential Requirements
* MBBS or equivalent and registration with the Medical Board of Australia
* Completion of ≥4 years of the RANZCOG integrated training program (ITP) and completion of Fellowship exams
* Eligible for RANZCOG CREI Subspecialty Training Program
* Strong interest in reproductive endocrinology, infertility and research
* Commitment to safe clinical practice, multidisciplinary teamwork and high‑quality patient care
Desirable Attributes
* Demonstrated aptitude for reproductive medicine and advanced gynaecology
* Experience in ultrasound, early pregnancy care or fertility preservation
* Academic track record or research experience
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work across public, private and academic settings
