South Western Sydney Local Health District, in partnership with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), is seeking a Senior/Principal Aboriginal Health Worker to join the ELVER Program based at DCJ Parramatta. This important role is dedicated to supporting Aboriginal children and young people living in out of home care, as well as their families. You will provide culturally safe, trauma informed and strengths based support that helps families navigate complex child protection, health and social service systems. Working closely with DCJ staff, health clinicians and community partners, you will walk alongside Aboriginal children and families, advocating for their cultural, social and emotional wellbeing. Your work will play a key role in strengthening engagement, improving service responses and ensuring that culture remains central to care planning and decision making. In this position, you will also contribute cultural leadership by supporting non Aboriginal staff to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal children, families and communities.

Are You the Right Fit?
You are an experienced Aboriginal Health Worker who is deeply committed to providing culturally safe, trauma informed support to Aboriginal children, young people and families engaged with out of home care or related systems. You bring strong skills in advocacy, care coordination and system navigation, working in partnership with DCJ, health services and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and culturally responsive care. You have the ability to build meaningful relationships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Aboriginal Medical Services and community supports, strengthening pathways that honour cultural identity and community connection. You also offer cultural knowledge, leadership and guidance to DCJ and health staff, contributing to service improvement, program development and culturally informed decision making within the ELVER Program.
Selection Criteria

* In this role being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement. Tell us about your mob and connection to culture?
* For Principal AHW: Holds a university degree qualification and a willingness to obtain a post graduate qualification relevant to Mental Health. For Senior AHW: Certificate IV Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Care or other relevant qualifications and /or relevant experience working within Aboriginal Health programs.
* Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing and the impacts of child protection, out-of-home care, and intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
* Demonstrated experience delivering culturally responsive support or services for Aboriginal children, young people, and families.
* Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary or interagency settings to coordinate care and support for Aboriginal children and families.
* Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
