The Employer: There is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Assistant Farm Manager seeking to advance their career within a dynamic, family-owned farming business that manages several farms totalling 18,000 acres along the eastern coast of Victoria. The farms are involved in sheep and beef cattle production, as well as the cultivation of both dryland and irrigated crops, utilising modern infrastructure and technology.
The enterprise includes 4,000 acres dedicated to cropping and is equipped with irrigation systems featuring central pivots. This area produces a variety of crops, including canola, wheat, fodder, and lucerne, suitable for grain, hay, and silage. Furthermore, the operation manages an Angus breeder herd of 600, 2,000 backgrounders, and a finishing capacity of 1,000 to 1,500 head on pasture. The sheep program comprises 4,000 merino ewes and 3,000 cross bred ewes, focusing on background and finishing. There are also 9,000 wool-growing merino wethers.
The Role
The Role : As the Assistant Manager, the role encompasses direct reporting to the ownership team, with a strong focus on hands-on involvement and oversight across all three primary business areas.
In livestock management, responsibilities involve collaborating with management to coordinate all livestock movements and husbandry. This includes leading teams focused on sheep and cattle, actively participating in livestock mustering and yard work, and ensuring the general health and nutrition of the animals.
Cropping duties include pasturing management, establishing forage crops, and hay production, which require proficiency in machinery operation. Additionally, responsibilities extend to installing and maintaining fencing and water systems.
General duties involve coordinating teams related to sheep, cattle, and cropping, performing mechanical and general farm maintenance, and accurately logging all activities in the farm management application.

Opportunities exist to tailor the managerial role to fit specific interests in livestock, cropping, or mixed farm management. Possession of a team of working dogs is a prerequisite for this position.

The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will demonstrate solid leadership and teamwork skills and a genuine passion for and in-depth knowledge of sheep, beef cattle, and cropping practices. The successful applicant must undergo a fitness-for-work medical examination and provide a police check. Additionally, the candidate should possess the following attributes:
- Practical experience in pasture and forage management
- Ability to maintain high standards of farm presentation and upkeep
- Proficiency in mechanical operations, water management, and general maintenance
- Attention to detail in all aspects of work is highly valued
- Must own a team of trained working dogs
- Must have a valid manual driver\'s license and own a vehicle; a truck license is preferred
