About the Job

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic people leader with strong pet care/animal handling experience for the position of Pet Welfare Supervisor at our Pet Hotel located in Symonston, Canberra.

This is a permanent part‐time position. The successful candidate will work 30 hours/week with hours scheduled between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Friday‐Monday, with potential to add on Tuesday or Thursday. Additional hours may be available up to 38 hours/week during peak periods.

This position reports directly to the Pet Hotel Manager and will oversee a team of passionate Pet Care Attendants, with accountability for the overall health of the pets in our care by ensuring pet welfare activities are conducted effectively and efficiently. Leading by example, the Supervisor will focus on the achievement of high‐quality outcomes, task planning and allocation, ensuring high standards of customer service, and training team members in SOP compliance.

The successful candidate will draw upon previous work experience as a senior kennel hand or animal attendant or related fields, to perform critical pet welfare duties including promoting a high level of animal welfare, special feed & medication preparation, as well as securing workplace hygiene/conditions and staff training.

About You

* Minimum 2 years' experience as a kennel hand/supervisor, or animal attendant in a medium‐sized animal boarding facility.
* Demonstrated 2+ years' experience in operational supervision/people leadership roles, known for energising and motivating your team through an enthusiastic and structured approach.
* Confidence to provide training and guidance to others, leading by example, and providing positive and constructive feedback.
* Must be able to work Friday to Monday weekly.
* Flexibility to pick up extra shifts during peak periods (school holidays, Easter, Christmas).
* Ability to complete own work at a brisk pace and within required timeframes.
* Ability to assign and delegate tasks and assist others to plan and prioritise their workload.
* Willingness to help others in your team and get personal satisfaction from seeing others succeed.
* Ability to work independently, and willing to ask for guidance for more complex matters.
* Excellent communication and a positive attitude.
* Ideally, you've completed Level III or IV certifications in Companion Animal Services, Animal Behaviour & Training.
* Commitment to working safely, and following Standard Operating Procedures.
* Willingness and ability to adhere to Hanrob Pet Hotels' operating procedures and work health and safety requirements at all times.

Important

This is an active and physical role working across the Pet Hotel. In addition to basic administrative work, the incumbent will primarily be required to work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions, and hands on with cats and dogs, on their feet for a significant portion of their day. They must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, reach, stretch, and restrain animals up to 50 kg on leads, communicate, speak, and interact with customers, internal and external stakeholders, and members of the public in person, over the phone, and online, and occasionally take difficult conversations, including providing feedback and receiving complaints.
