Senior Consultant – Engagement Independence, Ethics & Independence

Full-time

Brief Description of the Role:

The Senior Consultant will possess a sound understanding of independence rules and provide high-quality, professional support on independence-related matters across the Firm. The role also includes contributing to capability building within the team through the provision of training and technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Engagement Independence function within the Firm’s Ethics & Independence team by:

Managing Ethics & Independence systems, processes, and procedures to ensure operational effectiveness and compliance.

Contributing to projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outcomes.

Performing independence clearance processes for prospective audit clients across Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji, including reviewing non-assurance services; conducting intake discussions with audit teams; and guiding engagement teams through the Firm’s independence clearance systems.

Assessing the permissibility of non-assurance services for PIE and non-PIE audit clients prior to approval.

Evaluating new services, including assessing permissibility of proposed service offerings to audit clients; preparing independence memoranda; and developing supporting process documentation.

Providing guidance on routine queries relating to business relationships (e.g., marketing arrangements, sponsorships).

Applying technical and business knowledge to support compliance with local and global ethics and independence policies and regulatory requirements, including responding to stakeholder queries.

Other responsibilities

Drive continuous improvement initiatives by applying innovative and pragmatic approaches to enhance processes and service delivery.

Effectively manage competing priorities and perform under pressure while maintaining quality standards.

Design and implement processes that improve operational efficiency for both the team and the broader business.

Formulate well-reasoned, defensible positions on complex matters, supported by appropriate analysis and rationale.

Build and maintain strong relationships with Partners and staff, and collaborate across Risk Management to share knowledge, address business issues, and deliver timely, value-added outcomes.

How are you extraordinary?

Demonstrated experience in audit, risk consulting, or risk management within a Big 4 or mid-tier professional services environment - required.

Demonstrated knowledge of Auditor independence rules (IESBA) - required.

Knowledge of SEC, PCAOB, APES 110, and Corporations Act 2001 provisions is considered advantageous.

Strong technical capability, complemented by excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Relevant tertiary qualifications such as a degree in Law or Accounting, and/or professional accreditation (e.g., CA or CPA).
