Job Summary
In this role, you will support construction Superintendents develop work scope packages and cost estimates for a project's preassembly program including structural, piping and electrical support infrastructure elements.
You will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.
Major Responsibilities
* Acting as single point of contact for coordination and resolution of all issues related to structural, piping and electrical (limited to electrical support infrastructure e.g. cable tray and support) execution in the Pre-assembly yard and field.
* Assisting the Advanced Work Packaging team with development of work packages.
* Executing field material take-offs from design drawings.
* Preparing field material requisitions for materials and monitoring status of purchase orders and deliveries.
* Performing and documenting inspections for the structural work scope on an ongoing basis.
* Performing and documenting inspections for the piping work scope on an ongoing basis.
* Coordinating with the Electrical FE to perform and document inspections for the electrical work scope on an ongoing basis.
* Reviewing quality documentation for content and accuracy per approved inspection and test plans.
* Interpreting design requirements and ensuring installation methods and finished work are in conformance with applicable design drawings, specifications, standards, and codes.
* Trouble‐shooting technical and constructability issues with design engineer or fabricator, using input from Supervision.
* Documenting field changes and non‐conformances using formal approval processes.
* Participating in quality assurance reviews and facilitating resolution of quality findings related to civil structural activities.
* Reviewing short‐ and long‐term schedules developed by Supervision and verifying alignment with material delivery schedules and key project milestone dates.
* Providing support to Superintendents to establish requirements for manpower, tools, equipment, and material requirements.
* Verifying Superintendent's reported progress, resolving comments or discrepancies, and inputting installed quantities to Steel Slayer on an on‐going basis.
* Monitoring actual work progress compared to the project schedule.
* Leading final area walk‐downs, punchlisting, close‐out, and turnover of preassembled structures.
* Assisting with development and review of as‐built documentation.
Education and Experience Requirements
* Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5‐8 years of relevant experience or 9‐12 years of relevant work experience and minimum of 5 years of construction work experience in the civil/structural discipline.
* Experience in engineering of process plants or materials handling plants in Australia.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Strong knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures and the interaction with the other disciplines
* Experience and proven ability to manage SMP engineering packages
* Experience in rigging construction practices and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction
* Effective communication skills along with demonstrated supervision skills
* Solid planning and problem‐solving skills
* Work includes field inspections which require the following physical capabilities: extensive walking in and around a construction site in extreme heat and cold, climbing ladders, working on elevated platforms and scaffolds; crawling and crouching; working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces for extended periods of time.
* Preference given to previous Bechtel experience.
* Experience managing technical services subcontracts is desirable.
