Start your journalism career with McPherson Media Group (MMG).
The Cobram Courier, part of McPherson Media Group, is seeking a motivated and community-minded Cadet Journalist. If you're passionate about storytelling and eager to learn the craft of journalism, this is an exciting opportunity to begin your career.
About the role
This cadetship offers the best of both worlds. You'll have a flexible base, working across the Shepparton News newsroom and Cobram:
* In Shepparton, you'll be surrounded by fellow journalists, with the support of experienced editors and senior reporters. Here you'll gain mentorship, guidance, and the energy of a busy newsroom.
* In Cobram, you'll be immersed in the community you write for – building local connections, gaining personal perspective, and being there where the stories happen.
* From your first week, you'll see your byline in print and online while developing your skills across print, digital, and multimedia platforms.
You will
* Tell stories that matter – Cover local news, politics, sport, business, and human-interest stories.
* Connect with community – Build strong relationships and earn trust.
* Work across platforms – From traditional reporting to podcasts, video, photography, and social media.
About you
We're looking for someone who:
* Communicates clearly and writes with impact.
* Has curiosity and a nose for a story.
* Appreciates the importance of local news and community connection.
* Thrives in a deadline-driven environment.
* Holds a current driver's licence.
Why join us
At MMG you'll enjoy the mentoring of seasoned journalists, hands-on newsroom experience, and the opportunity to make a difference in your community. With training, support, and exposure to multiple platforms, you'll be set up for a rewarding journalism career.
