About the Role:
As an Assistant Gardener, you will be responsible for a range of maintenance and gardening duties. Your tasks will include:
Assisting the Parks and Garden Team(s) with various gardening tasks such as watering, pruning, weeding, and mulching.
Operating council plant and equipment, including ride-on mowers, trucks, cutting tools, tractors, and elevated work platforms.
Supporting planting initiatives and estimating/ordering plants, trees, and shrubs.
Assisting the Tree Maintenance Teams with tree care and maintenance.
Ensuring compliance with weed control standards, safety regulations, and chemical handling procedures.
Providing excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
Completing assigned customer requests and maintaining accurate documentation.
Conducting regular maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools.
Contributing to reports, databases, and administrative tasks.
Assisting with irrigation system repairs and playground/recreation equipment maintenance.
Participating in the implementation and operation of traffic management plans.

About You:
To thrive in this role, you should have the following qualifications and skills:
Hold a Heavy Rigid Victorian Driver's License.
Experience in horticultural maintenance.
Knowledge of operating various plant and equipment utilised in horticultural services.
Familiarity with traffic management plan implementation.
Ability to work cooperatively within a team and resolve minor problems.
Robust oral and written communication skills.
Excellent customer service abilities.
Effective planning and prioritisation skills.
Proficiency in the safe operation of plant and equipment, including herbicide handling.
Physical and mental fitness to perform duties as outlined in the position description. (Pre-employment medical and police check required)
