Description Downer is seeking an experienced Manager based in Mackay to lead the operational, financial and people management functions within our spray seal and asphalt division. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving safe, efficient, and high‑quality delivery of works while fostering strong client and stakeholder relationships. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will oversee depot operations, resource planning, compliance, and financial performance, while playing a key role in strategy, continuous improvement, and business growth. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Lead day‑to‑day depot operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards. Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasting and financial reporting. Plan and coordinate labour, plant, and materials effectively across projects. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and government stakeholders. Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to supervisors and operational teams. Drive operational excellence, continuous improvement, and efficiency initiatives. Contribute to organisational planning, strategy, and market growth objectives. Champion a Zero Harm culture, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and fatigue management requirements. ABOUT YOU Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred) or Diploma of Civil Construction / Business, or equivalent proven experience. Approximately 10 years’ experience in asphalt or bituminous surfacing, with senior management exposure. Proven experience managing large operational teams and complex civil construction projects. Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting. Sound knowledge of WHS, quality, and environmental management systems. Experience working with State and Local Government contracts. Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication skills. Downer is a company that believes people are our greatest asset.
