About the Unit
The Security and Emergency Services Group (SESG) provides security services and incident and emergency response to the correctional system. SESG is responsible for providing immediate and longer‐term support through its diverse portfolios such as emergency and incident response, high security escort of prisoners, state‐wide training services, barrier control, search and canine services, and management of firearms.
About the Role
The Operations Manager oversees all aspects of day‐to‐day management of the SESG while ensuring all policies and procedures are followed. This includes liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver dynamic security and response services to the correctional system.
The Operations Manager manages a team of specialised custodial officers delivering a range of services state‐wide and plays a key role in high‐level development and management of the various SESG specialist portfolios, driving continuous improvement.
The role coordinates information and services within the Security and Intelligence Division and develops and implements new policies and procedures. The Operations Manager identifies and addresses issues concerning operations and staff and undertakes the responsibilities of Senior Operations Manager of the SESG when required.
Duties
* Provide leadership, strategic direction and deliver on projects relating to assigned portfolios, including Chemical Agents, Firearms, Emergency Management, Tasking and Coordination, Occupational, Health and Safety (OHS) and Canines.
* Lead day‐to‐day operational needs of the SESG, overseeing security, managing complex operational problems, ensuring operational compliance and implementing policies, strategies, programs and OHS.
* Contribute to business and strategic planning, manage stakeholder relationships, develop workforce and continually improve service delivery.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
* Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, prisoners and other service providers in delivering an integrated, whole‐of‐Corrections approach to reducing re‐offending.
* Experience managing teams at a senior level, demonstrating leadership in collaborative environments and working across teams and organisations to achieve outcomes.
* High‐level knowledge of current legislative requirements pertaining to a correctional environment.
* Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and the MS Office application suite.
* Understanding of the SESG role, relevant legislation and the direction of SESG.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Full and current Victorian driver's licence.
* A qualification in Business Management/Human Resources or commensurate experience is desirable.
