Job Summary
This role involves providing critical communication services in a fast-paced environment.
As a Radio Dispatch Operator, you will be responsible for receiving calls and dispatching police resources promptly and accurately according to established procedures.
Successful applicants will possess excellent radio/telephone communication skills, preferably gained in a time-sensitive emergency services context.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the receipt of calls and initiate timely responses in line with operational guidelines.
2. Develop and maintain strong relationships with team members to ensure seamless collaboration under pressure.
3. Utilize keyboard/computer skills efficiently to prioritize tasks and adhere to operational protocols.
4. Accurately acquire knowledge of police operations, services, and Tasmanian geography/demography.
5. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to relevant policies.
Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated experience in radio/telephone communication, particularly in crisis situations.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when making rapid decisions.
* Capacity to function effectively within a team environment facing work flow pressures and stressful circumstances.
* Proficiency in keyboard/computer skills with ability to identify and manage priorities according to operational requirements.
* Able to quickly assimilate knowledge of police operations, services, and geographic information.
* Thorough understanding of confidentiality obligations.

Candidates must satisfy pre-employment checks prior to taking up appointment or promotion. Relevant serious criminal offenses or repeated offenses may result in declined applications.
Training and Development
Prospective casual Radio Dispatch Operators are required to complete a comprehensive training program consisting of two phases.
Phase one includes a four-week training period during which participants will work day duty hours (8:00 am - 4:00 pm) with regular breaks, followed by on-the-job training in the workplace.
Upon successful completion of both phases, candidates may be included on the casual register.
