They are seeking an Originator focused on power to lead PPA origination and offtake structuring for renewable energy projects. This front office role offers direct deal accountability, the opportunity to shape commercial strategy, and exposure to Australia's largest renewable energy developments.
The Role
As Originator - Power, you will identify, structure, and execute long-term power purchase agreements for utility-scale renewable energy projects including solar, wind, and battery storage. This role focuses on originating offtake agreements with corporate buyers, retailers, and government entities to support project development and achieve financial close.
You will build relationships with potential offtakers, structure PPA terms balancing project economics with buyer requirements, negotiate commercial agreements, and coordinate transaction execution with development, finance, and legal teams. Working within a commercial origination team, you will take direct accountability for securing offtake agreements supporting multi-billion dollar renewable developments.
This is a revenue-generating front office role requiring commercial hunter mentality, deep understanding of power markets, and relationship-building capability to close high-value long-term agreements.
Key Responsibilities
PPA Origination & Offtake Structuring:
* Originate long-term power purchase agreements for utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects
* Identify and qualify corporate offtakers, retailers, and government entities requiring renewable energy supply
* Structure PPA terms including pricing mechanisms, volume profiles, firming arrangements, and LGC allocation
* Develop commercial proposals balancing project economics with offtaker requirements
* Build pipeline of offtake opportunities supporting renewable development portfolio
Commercial Negotiation & Execution:
* Lead commercial negotiations with ccorporate buyers, retailers, and government procurement teams
* Close long-term offtake agreements ranging from years supporting project financial close
* Coordinate transaction execution across development, finance, trading, and legal functions
* Manage term sheet development, commercial structuring, and contract finalisation
* Support due diligence processes and credit assessment of potential offtakers
Market Analysis & Strategy:
* Analyse power market fundamentals, pricing dynamics, and offtaker demand trends
* Assess project revenue potential and offtake structuring options across NEM regions
* Provide commercial input to project development decisions and investment approvals
* Monitor competitive landscape and offtake market conditions
* Identify emerging opportunities including firming products, shape contracts, and hybrid offtakes
Stakeholder Collaboration:
* Partner with project development teams to align offtake strategy with project timelines
* Coordinate with trading teams on price risk, hedging strategies, and merchant exposure
* Work with finance teams on revenue modelling and bankability requirements
* Collaborate with legal teams on PPA documentation and contract negotiation
* Engage with international origination teams across global operations
Requirements
* Tertiary qualification in engineering, finance, economics, or related discipline
* 5-8 years' experience in power origination, renewable energy development, or energy trading with commercial focus
* Proven track record originating and closing long-term power purchase agreements for renewable energy projects
* Deep understanding of Australian electricity markets including NEM operations, spot pricing, and contract structures
* Experience structuring PPAs including pricing mechanisms, volume profiles, firming arrangements, and settlement terms
* Strong commercial acumen with focus on project economics, revenue modelling, and financial close requirements
* Demonstrated capability building relationships with corporate offtakers, retailers, and government procurement teams
* Understanding of renewable energy project development including permitting, grid connection, and construction timelines
* Knowledge of environmental certificates (LGCs), renewable energy targets, and sustainability commitments
* Excellent negotiation skills with ability to close complex long-term agreements
* Proficiency with financial modelling, market analysis, and deal evaluation
* Collaborative team player with ability to work across development, finance, trading, and legal functions
* Experience with battery storage offtakes, hybrid projects, or firming products desirable
* Background in renewable energy developers, utilities, or trading houses advantageous
