This role’s focus area is the management of cassowaries and crocodiles and other native wildlife in the cassowary coast region and the greater far north. The activities can be physically demanding and include survey and monitoring of threatened species in the field, emergency wildlife response, maintenance of field equipment and safety systems, and education and training.
Wildlife Rangers are an integral part of the units within the Wildlife and Threatened Species Operations, QPWS & Partnerships and provide a range of services, including advice, assessment and auditing of permits and other authorities under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and subordinate legislation and operational delivery of services to conserve and protect wildlife and associated habitat.
The Branch plays a vital role in delivering effective conservation and regulatory outcomes for Queensland's native species and ecosystems and their safe interaction with the community generally.

The Team Operates In Innisfail, Queensland To Deliver Services To Conserve And Protect Native And Threatened Wildlife And Associated Habitat—with Particular Focus On
- Regulation of the Nature Conservation Act to deliver protected wildlife compliance and enforcement

Wildlife Rangers in the Northern Region Operations have a focus on wildlife management. This includes working with crocodiles, cassowaries and flying-foxes. This may require safely responding to isolated and remote situations in North Queensland for extended periods of time. Tasks are likely to include operating communication and navigational systems, undertaking equipment repair, and the use of environmental indicators to make decisions. You may be required to undertake short term stays in remote locations with little or no facilities available.
