Your role
Sterilisation Assistants provide assistance to the Sterilisation Technicians to ensure infection control standards are achieved by following appropriate principles and practices for surgical instrumentation.
Responsibilities
- Follow and apply appropriate cleaning methods and use appropriate disinfecting agents while working on surgical instrumentation
- Support the Sterilisation Technicians to process reusable medical devices (RMDs) for tracking purposes and transfer where necessary including scanning and data entry
- Maintain knowledge of surgical instruments and packaging techniques to ensure equipment is safely and adequately handled
- Operate sterilisation equipment and systems under supervision
- Follow sterilisation procedures in accordance with accepted methods and principles
Qualifications
- Not required to be qualified on commencement but must provide proof of enrolment in Certificate III in Sterilisation Services and attain this qualification prior to advancement
What makes a difference for us
- Enrolment in Certificate III in Sterilisation Services and successful obtainment within 12 months
- Current clinical experience in sterilisation techniques
- Familiarity with Australian Standard 4187 – 2014 and ACHS Standards
- Familiar with NHMRC guidelines for prevention of transmission of infectious diseases
- Experience in secure handling of used items for sterilisation processes, including collection procedures and precautions
- Familiar with decontamination and disinfection processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of instrumentation relevant to the role and ability to assemble instrument trays correctly
- Willingness to obtain required vaccinations in line with hospital infection control requirements
