The Opportunity

An opportunity is open to a suitable applicant to conduct a fully funded, full-time PhD within the GPCR EcoPharmacology Lab, Monash

Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), Monash University. The successful applicant will generate high-impact research by applying state-of-the-art deep learning, molecular modelling, and GPCR pharmacology to accelerate drug discovery for dementia treatment in

postmenopausal women. The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team comprising experts in GPCR biology, computational pharmacology, artificial intelligence, and neurovascular in vivo models.

The applicant will have access to a unique research environment at MIPS – one of the world's leading centres in GPCR drug discovery – along with cutting-edge computational resources, AI platforms, and established collaborations in cardiovascular and neurovascular

disease.

The successful applicant will be enrolled at Monash University and spend the majority of the time at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences under the supervision of Dr Anh TN Nguyen, ARC DECRA Fellow, Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The Project

Project Title: Deep learning approaches to G protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER) targeted drug discovery.

Supervisory Team: Dr Anh TN Nguyen; Prof Chris Sobey

The candidate's attributes:

Applications are invited from outstanding and enthusiastic graduates with a relevant background in a health-related field e.g. paramedicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, epidemiology, etc. or economics.

The position is open to Australian and New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents only.

We are looking for students of high scholarly calibre with:

* A First-Class Honours degree, or High Second-Class Masters degree or equivalent in the health-related field.
* Strong quantitative research skills.
* An understanding of quantitative research methodology and data analysis.
* Evidence of research experience.
* Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently.
* Applicants with publications will be highly regarded.
* Fluency in written and oral English.
