About the opportunity
Based on a 2:2 FIFO roster to Tom Price, Altrad are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to support the delivery of works on the Rio Tinto Tom Price Phase III Project. This position offers the opportunity to lead frontline execution of welding activities while working closely with Construction, Maintenance, and Project teams on site.
Supporting the Construction Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing welding operations to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. You will play a key role in driving productivity while maintaining strict compliance with site procedures and regulatory requirements.
In addition, you will interface closely with planners, QA teams, subcontractors, and other site stakeholders to coordinate activities, resolve issues, and ensure alignment across all welding and fabrication scopes.
Responsibilities
* Supervise and coordinate daily welding activities across the project
* Ensure all work is completed in line with safety standards, specifications, and quality requirements
* Conduct inspections and monitor welding outputs to ensure compliance and workmanship standards
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of welders and trades assistants
* Work closely with planners to schedule and optimise welding activities
* Facilitate toolbox talks, safety audits, and promote a strong safety culture on site
* Coordinate with contractors and internal teams to resolve technical and operational issues
* Ensure correct use and availability of welding equipment and materials
* Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in line with project and regulatory requirements
About you
You're an experienced Mechanical Supervisor with a strong background in welding within mining or heavy industry environments. You bring proven leadership capability, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to drive both quality and productivity on site.
You bring with you:
* Trade qualified (Cert III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent)
* Minimum 5+ years' experience in a welding supervisory role within mining or heavy industry
* Strong understanding of welding techniques, materials, and relevant safety standards
* Proven experience in inspection, quality control, and compliance processes
* Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage site-based teams
* High level of commitment to HSEQ and promoting a zero-harm culture
* Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders including planners, QA, and contractors
* Strong problem‐solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities on site
* Current tickets/licenses such as Working at Heights, Confined Space, and High-Risk Work License (desirable/required)
