As the Senior Ecologist you will: 
- Participate in a team of scientific and technical staff who carry out ecological condition assessments of regional ecosystems, validation of mapping products and other biodiversity information sources.
- Undertake all aspects of vegetation condition and biodiversity survey and mapping, including interpretation of remotely sensed imagery, vegetation condition assessments, field survey, including plant identification, measuring vegetation structural attributes, data curation, and the use of GIS.
- Conduct fieldwork and vegetation data collection for the validation of mapping products and classifying of regional ecosystems and their condition state.
- Assist with research to develop recent or improved methods for mapping and monitoring landscape attributes, including vegetation.
- Contribute to the preparation of procedures, reports, scientific publications and presentations, and the reporting of data and results.
- Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.

This position requires:
- Thorough knowledge of vegetation condition conceptual frameworks and biodiversity survey and mapping, including interpretation of remotely sensed imagery, vegetation condition assessments, ecological and botanical field survey, data management and the use of GIS.
- Experience in organising and conducting ecological field data collection using biodiversity assessment protocols for assessing vegetation and determining its condition state, and for the validation of mapping products.
- Knowledge of contemporary and automated approaches for quality checking and implementation of data management standards to ensure data quality and accuracy.
- Development, maintenance, and utilisation of contemporary open-source and proprietary software and data management systems (such as ArcGIS Pro) to store and analyse spatial model outputs, remotely sensed image data, and other spatial, numerical, and textual data sources.
- Ability to deliver products and services in an environment conducive to high individual performance, teamwork and ethical behaviour and decision-making.
- Demonstrated capacity to communicate, consult, negotiate, liaise and utilise creative problem-solving skills.
