Key Responsibilities:
• Review drawings, specifications, and work areas to determine appropriate installation requirements for telecommunications equipment.
• Install and configure customer-premises equipment including routers, NTDs, switches, telephones and PCs.
• Diagnose and repair faults in fiber and copper networks using OTDRs, power meters, and other testing instruments.
• Install and maintain underground and aerial cabling, including conduit works, joint closures (DJL, FJL, BJL) and cable splicing.
• Set up telecommunications systems such as telephones, data transmission devices, switchboards, and network equipment.
• Perform end-to-end fiber and copper testing (insertion loss, OTDR) to ensure optimal network performance.
• Prepare technical documentation, configuration reports, and provide client support as required.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and implement traffic control plans at worksites.
• Collaborate with NBN and delivery partners to ensure design, quality and contractual requirements are met.
• Conduct site surveys to assess feasibility and optimal placement of equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections to ensure network reliability.
• Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving complex network issues.
• Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff or clients on equipment usage and maintenance.
• Monitor network performance, identify potential bottlenecks or risks, and recommend improvements.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to manage installations, upgrades, and maintenance schedules.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installations, repairs, and testing results.
• Respond promptly to service outages or urgent client issues to minimize downtime.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry standards, and best practices in telecommunications.
Requirements / Qualifications:
• Minimum 1 year of experience in telecommunications installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• ACMA Open Cabler Registration with Fiber, Coaxial Structured Cabling Endorsements.
• Relevant NBN Co Accreditations (Fiber Inspection, Testing Commissioning, Fiber Splicing, Business Grade Technician, Optical Fiber Installation).
• Safety certifications: White Card, CPR First Aid, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Traffic Management.
• Experience with fiber and copper networks, joint closures, splicing, and customer premises equipment.
• Proficient in using diagnostic tools (OTDR, power meters, voltmeters, ammeters).
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills; able to read technical drawings and liaise with clients and partners.
• Current driver's license and willingness to work on aerial and underground installations.
