We're seeking an experienced Level 2 Network Engineer to support Defence networks, including connectivity, device configuration, node deployments, and related technical tasks as directed. You'll collaborate closely with peer technical teams, contribute to service management outcomes, and participate in operational routines supporting training and exercise activity.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide engineering support across Defence-managed network environments (LAN/WAN).
* Monitor network device and link states; identify and report hardware/path failures and impacts.
* Configure and maintain routing, switching and firewall platforms under formal change control (e.g., Cisco IOS and similar).
* Use ITSM toolsets daily: manage tickets, document work clearly, follow prioritisation and scheduling, and escalate appropriately.
* Troubleshoot complex faults end-to-end with peer teams, taking ownership of issues within your remit.
* Maintain boundary interfaces and ensure firewall rules align with approved ports/protocols and accreditation requirements.
* Contribute to CMDB updates and configuration item state changes in line with configuration management practices.
* Apply ITIL service management principles (including participation in CAB and other governance processes).
* Produce and maintain technical knowledge articles, documentation, and designs in knowledge repositories.
* Participate in exercise manning/shift routines when required.
* Handle classified information and registers in line with relevant Defence and Commonwealth security frameworks and policies.
Skills & Experience
* Strong hands-on experience in network operations and engineering (Level 2 or similar).
* Solid troubleshooting capability across complex network environments.
* Experience configuring and supporting routing, switching, and firewalls (Cisco highly regarded).
* Familiarity with ITSM/ITIL processes and ticketing practices (change, incident, problem).
* Exposure to collaboration services over managed bearers and supporting VoIP/VTC (including NAT traversal) is beneficial.
* Confidence contributing to documentation, knowledge bases, and technical process improvement.
Personal Qualities
* Professional, ethical, and accountable with a strong service mindset.
* Proactive, diligent, and capable of working independently while supporting team outcomes.
* Strong communicator who builds positive working relationships and collaborates effectively.
