Job Description
As Legal Counsel, you will provide practical, commercially balanced legal advice across Abano's Australian and New Zealand operations. This is a broad, hands‑on role where you'll work closely with senior leaders and functional teams to manage risk, enable growth, and support day-to‑day operations.
Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, you will build trusted relationships with the Executive Leadership Team, Regional Operations Managers, and corporate support functions.
Key areas of responsibility include:
* Advising on operational matters across the ANZ business
* Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating clinician and commercial contracts (including government contracts)
* Supporting M&A activity, joint ventures, and other commercial transactions
* Managing disputes, complaints, and regulatory matters
* Advising on privacy, compliance, and legal risk management
* Reviewing marketing materials and advising on competition and consumer law issues
Qualifications
You are a confident, pragmatic lawyer who enjoys working in a fast‑paced, commercially driven environment and partnering with the business to find solutions.
You'll bring:
* 5–8 years' post‑qualification experience, gained in a top or mid‑tier firm or a strong in‑house legal team
* Proven experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
* Exposure to healthcare, services, or regulated environments (highly regarded)
* A sound understanding of Australian and/or New Zealand privacy law principles
* Experience with disputes, complaints handling, and regulatory matters
* Exposure to M&A or joint ventures (preferred)
* Strong communication skills and sound commercial judgement
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent
* Admission to practice in Australia or another relevant jurisdiction (Admission in New Zealand will be supported where required)
