The Opportunity
Genomics WA was established through a partnership between The Kids Research Institute Australia, University of Western Australia and Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. The team provides cutting‐edge genomics and data‐analysis services to biomedical and non‐biomedical researchers in WA, including library preparation for NGS, long‐ and short‐read next‐generation sequencing and data‐analysis services.
Working in a multidisciplinary environment, you will be part of a service team using contemporary molecular biology techniques for processing samples, operating specialist instruments, conducting molecular workflows in the Genomics WA labs, and assisting in the maintenance of all equipment including Illumina, PacBio and ONT sequencers, liquid handlers and Agilent Tapestation 4200 and Femto Pulse. This full‐time position is a 3‐month parental leave cover based at The Kids Research Institute Australia and Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Nedlands.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate long‐read and short‐read sequencers including Novaseq X, MiSeq i100 Plus, PacBio Vega and ONT ElysION to provide sequencing services.
* Perform automated and manual library preparation workflows & operate liquid handling systems.
* Undertake a range of service projects as part of the Genomics WA team.
* Assist in the development of service management systems and databases.
About You
* Degree in Science with knowledge of library preparation and next‐generation sequencing technology.
* Excellent communication and customer‐service skills, with comfort working independently.
* Familiarity with laboratory management and safety procedures and excellent attention to detail.
* Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines in an organised manner.
* Past experience in a lab conducting Genomics workflows is desirable.
