Local Laws Officer

$74,633 to $87,557 per annum
The Whitsunday Regional Council is situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. The region encompasses the 74 tropical Whitsunday Islands, the coastal towns of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour and Bowen along with the rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville. Your opportunity:
Ready for an exciting challenge? The Local Laws Officer plays an important part in the delivery, coordination and implementation of Local Law activities in accordance with Council's Local Laws Acts and regulations. This position provides support and advice surrounding complaints, investigations, and instigate all necessary actions required to regulate provisions of Council's local laws.

Your skills and experience:
This position is ideally suited to someone who:
* Can communicate clearly, respectfully and professionally, with people form all walks of life,
* Is able to apply legislation, procedures and policy with consistency and integrity,
* Has the ability to stay level-headed when situations escalate, and know how to de-escalate,
* Can make sound, evidence-based decision on the spot,
* Has strong recording and reporting capabilities, and
* Approaches every situation with safety.
Essential
* Experience in the interpretation and compliance of regulations/local laws
* C Class Manual Drivers Licence.
* Experience in compliance, regulatory work, community safety, animal management with sound judgement and legislation-based decision making.
Desirable
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or relevant experience.
* Experience in a local government environment well regarded.
