Overview
The IT Data Modeller designs, develops, and maintains enterprise data models to support complex projects. The role involves scoping, sourcing, and optimising data for analysis while ensuring system integrity. You will work with stakeholders to translate business requirements into detailed data models that follow established architecture and data modelling frameworks.
Key responsibilities
* Develop and enhance conceptual, logical, and physical data models following architecture principles and standards
* Query and interpret data using SQL to provide clear advice on complex data matters
* Analyse data structures, relationships, flows, lineage, and definitions to identify gaps and design solutions
* Work with business and solution designers to support new data requirements, cleansing, and conversion
* Design physical tables with appropriate primary keys and data types in ER Studio
* Provide peer reviews, release documents, DDL SQL scripts, and other artefacts
* Support business analysts with reporting requirements and solution architecture reviews
* Advise on continuous improvement and industry best practices for data modelling
* Collaborate with development and BAU teams to implement new or amended solutions
* Estimate effort and prioritise business and information needs with stakeholders
* Experience with SQL or PL-SQL for data analysis
* Knowledge of dimensional and ERD data modelling, and awareness of Data Vault modelling
* Experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases
* Familiarity with XML schema design and ER Studio or similar tools
* Understanding of metadata management, data governance, and data quality
* Strong ability to engage with business areas and technical teams, communicate with non-technical staff, and negotiate outcomes
* Ability to work across multiple projects in a multidisciplinary team with competing priorities
Skills and experience
* Bachelor's degree in IT or equivalent professional experience
* Minimum 3 to 5 years in database design and development
* Proficiency in data modelling methodologies and techniques
* Strong communication skills to present complex data models to varied audiences
* 12-month initial contract with potential for two 12-month extensions
* Hybrid work options across QLD, ACT, and NSW
