Employment Type: Permanent Full Time

Position Classification: Staff Specialist

Hours Per Week: 40

Requisition ID: REQ511805

Eligible for the NSW Rural Workforce Incentive Scheme

The Paediatrics Department at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is entering an exciting phase of expansion and is now seeking to appoint 2 permanent full‐time Staff Specialists to join its team. Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is a Level 4 Paediatric Unit with 8 inpatient beds for children and young people up to 18 years of age and a 2‐bed special care nursery, supporting a Level 4 maternity unit with 450 deliveries annually. You will join a workforce of 3 long‐standing Paediatricians with an increasing level of junior medical staff support. We pride ourselves on collaborative teamwork to provide an excellent standard of care for our patients and their families.

The clinical work you will be doing requires a broad scope of skills from neonatal care ( > 34 weeks' gestation) to inpatient care of children and young people up to 18 years, as well as general outpatients, involving complex medical, behavioural and developmental paediatrics. The work we do is at times challenging but very rewarding and will allow you to work to the full scope of your practice as a regional general paediatrician. We can provide mentoring and support as you establish yourself as a key member of our team and develop your own career interests. If you are early in your career or feeling this is a big leap of faith, we will ensure you have all the support you need.

If an academic career in teaching and research interests you, we have opportunities for academic positions in the School of Rural Medicine at the University of New England that could complement your clinical role.

From a personal perspective this position is ideally suited to those looking for the ideal combination of a relaxed rural lifestyle with a challenging and rewarding career in regional paediatrics. Armidale offers you a home where you and your family can feel part of a vibrant community with all the benefits of a rural lifestyle and opportunities provided by a large regional university with a wide range of cultural and sporting activities. The surrounds of national parks with stunning waterfalls and ancient rainforests make this an ideal community to raise a family and enjoy the great outdoors.

Benefits

Be rewarded with up to $10,000 in the first 12 months PLUS up to $10,000 each year thereafter in fortnightly payments under the Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme (based on a minimum 18‐month commitment). All payments made to part‐time employees will be on a pro‐rata basis. Check your eligibility here – Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme. If you would like to discuss your eligibility or current circumstances further, please contact HNELHD‐RuralIncentives@health.nsw.gov.au.
