Primary objective
Provide expert advice regarding Northern Territory water resource management regulations and compliance requirements
and manage the team responsible for delivering effective and efficient compliance and regulatory services.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and lead a geographically-dispersed team of water regulation officers.
2. Manage and undertake water regulatory and compliance activities including monitoring compliance with licence and
permit conditions and investigating potential breaches of the Water Act 1992.
3. Provide compliance advice regarding water licences and permits to licensees and permit holders, industry and other
government agencies in a timely and professional manner.
1. Ensure compliance is undertaken in accordance with accepted regulatory principles including the hierarchy of
compliance and standard evidentiary management practices.
5. Provide support and work in consultation with the broader Water Resources Division.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to manage individual and team performance by developing people and effectively allocating
responsibilities and resources to meet tight deadlines and conflicting priorities.
1. Proven contemporary experience in a similar compliance and enforcement role.
2. An understanding of the Water Act 1992 or similar environmental legislation.
3. Experience in developing a compliance framework including developing standard procedures and compliance
performance indicators to measure success.
5. A high level of written and oral communication skills with experience in preparing documents that demonstrate an ability
to collate and analyse information including numerical data to form reasoned advice or recommendations relating to
undertaking compliance activities.
1. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills and experience in working and negotiating effectively with government
agencies, industry, and a diverse range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
1. Current NT Drivers Licence or equivalent.
Desirable
1. Knowledge or experience in water resource management.
2. Certificate IV in Government Investigations or similar training.
