Join our Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) team and help build the automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and developer enablement platforms that empower development teams across Curtin University.
About the Role
As a Platform Developer, you will contribute to the platform engineering lifecycle by participating in the design, coding, testing, and documentation of automation tools, CI/CD pipelines and developer enablement solutions. You'll work collaboratively within the Cloud Platform Engineering team and have the opportunity to grow your technical knowledge and skills in platform engineering, guided by senior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work in a collaborative environment to design, code, test and document automation solutions, Infrastructure as Code, and platform enhancements based on an understanding of development team needs and operational requirements.
* Work in a collaborative environment to design, code, test and document automation solutions, Infrastructure as Code, and platform enhancements based on an understanding of development team needs and operational requirements.
* Assist in Backlog Refinement and Sprint Planning sessions to ensuring tasks meet expectations before being worked on.
* Contribute to platform development efforts and assist in establishing technical standards for automation tools and platform services.
* Participate in Level 3 support for of the University's cloud platforms, CI/CD systems and automation services.
* Demonstrate a willingness to continuously learn and actively seek opportunities to expand platform engineering skills, particularly in Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and cloud automation.
Selection Criteria:
We're looking for someone with enthusiasm for learning and a passion for building automation tools and platform services, with the following skills and attributes:
Essential:
* A relevant degree with experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
* Good understanding and experience with relevant programming languages such as Python and TypeScript/JavaScript, with a focus on automation and Infrastructure as Code development.
* Understanding of software development practices and principles, including version control (e.g. Git) and CI/CD concepts.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to present options and rationales for automation solutions.
* Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, tools and methodologies as needed.
Desirable:
* Experience working in an Agile development team.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation).
* Understanding of CI/CD concepts and automation pipelines.
* AWS certification (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Developer Associate).
* Experience with cloud platforms and services, particularly AWS.
* Knowledge of containerisation technologies (Docker, ECS) and serverless computing (Lambda).
* Understanding of monitoring and observability tooling (CloudWatch, Grafana).
* Experience with automation scripting and developer tooling.
Role Requirements
1. Permanent working rights in Australia (visa sponsorship and relocation are not supported for this role).
2. Ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Clearance and complete background, integrity, and reference checks.
3. Willingness to occasionally work outside normal office hours when required.
