Job Title: Network Systems Specialist
About the Job
The organization seeks a highly skilled Network Systems Specialist to support WAN and LAN networks. As part of this role, you will be responsible for incident resolution, routing changes, and firewall modifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation and maintenance of client LAN/WAN devices
2. Respond to and resolve incident tickets in a timely manner
3. Draft and implement standard network change requests
4. Support Tier III network engineers with incident management and projects, including site surveys and Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs)
5. Perform configuration management functions such as updating topology drawings and ensuring asset management records are accurate
6. Coordinate network operations, maintenance, repairs, or upgrades
7. Configure and troubleshoot layer 2 switching concepts, including Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), Port Security, and Thin Configurations
Requirements
1. Tier II technical certifications and relevant experience
2. A minimum of 16 years of work experience, which can include a combination of education and experience
3. Compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 2 requirements
4. Working knowledge of basic routing fundamentals and layer 2 switching concepts
5. Familiarity with CISCO/Juniper Return Material Authorization (RMA) processes
6. Layer 1 and Layer 2 network experience, including CAT5, Single Mode (SM)/Multimode (MM) Fiber, Serial cables, and Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP)
7. Knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) models
8. Familiarity with various operating systems, including Cisco Internetworking Operating System (IOS), Juniper JUNOS, Brocade, and Foundry
9. Familiarity with Layer 3 protocols, such as OSPF, BGP, VRRP, HSRP, MPLS, LSP, and GRE
10. Familiarity with IT service management tools, including ServiceNow and Atlassian Confluence
11. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
