About the Opportunity

As Financial Counsellor, you'll provide free, confidential and independent financial counselling to individuals and families experiencing or at risk of financial hardship.

Your work will help people understand their options, reduce stress, and build long-term financial wellbeing.

Every day will be different – from working one-on-one with clients to delivering financial literacy workshops, supporting gambling amelioration efforts, and strengthening partnerships across the community.

About You

You are empathetic, solutions-focused and passionate about supporting people to regain control of their financial lives. You enjoy connecting with diverse communities and thrive in a role that mixes counselling, advocacy, education and teamwork.

You will bring:

* Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling) and the Problem Gambling Skill Set modules along with registration with an affiliated professional body (SAFCA)
* Experience working as a Financial Counsellor, or in the human services sector in casework or in customer focused advocacy, finance or banking
* Experience assessing individual needs and circumstances along with an aptitude for assisting people experiencing hardship to explore options, identify solutions, address current issues and improve their financial wellbeing
* Proven experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, staff and Aboriginal Controlled Organisations.

Please note: It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must provide 100 points of identification to confirm Australian citizenship or eligibility to work in Australia; possess a Working with Children (Ochre Card), a current National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a valid NT driver's licence.

Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.

COVID-19 Vaccination Status
