Compliance Manager

We are seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to play a pivotal role at Chain Valley Colliery. Reporting to the Mine Manager and working closely with managers, supervisors, and statutory function holders, you will lead the administration and continuous improvement of site compliance systems that support safe, efficient, and reliable underground operations. Your expertise will ensure ongoing compliance with legislative, regulatory, and internal requirements, while proactively identifying and managing risk to drive strong safety and operational performance.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will influence site-wide behaviours, contribute to strategic decision‑making, and support a positive safety and compliance culture across the operation.

Our successful candidate will be required to:

* Champion compliance with the mine's Safety Management System across all site operations.
* Lead the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System to ensure alignment with legislative, regulatory, and company requirements.
* Identify, report, and escalate non‑conformances to relevant leaders, process owners, and the Mine Manager.
* Plan and coordinate the audit, inspection, and review program for all elements of the Safety Management System.
* Support the Mine Manager and statutory position holders in meeting legislative obligations, including incident investigation and reporting, coordination and management of high-risk activities and facilitation of site inspections, audits, visits, and assessments.
* Maintain site document control systems, compliance action registers, and incident and investigation tracking systems.
* Facilitate and promote effective risk assessment processes to identify and control hazards.
* Prepare and deliver monthly risk, compliance, and performance reports to site leadership.
* Monitor changes in legislation and assess impacts on site compliance systems and operational practices.
* Mentor and develop team members, fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and professional excellence.

As an experienced safety and compliance professional with a strong background in underground coal mining and regulatory compliance, you should bring:

* NSW Practising Certificate for the statutory function of Mining Engineering Manager - Underground Coal (highly desirable).
* Tertiary engineering or related qualification, or equivalent, plus a WHS qualification.
* Qualifications in lead auditing and/or risk management systems.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in underground coal safety, compliance, or statutory roles.
* Strong working knowledge of NSW mining legislation, Australian Standards, and industry codes of practice.
* Proven experience developing and maintaining mine Safety Management System (SMS) compliance.
* Demonstrated capability in risk management, audits, incident management, and regulator engagement.
* Confident communicator with the ability to influence site leaders and work collaboratively across operations.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance/document control systems.
