Queensland Corrective Services is seeking a skilled Training Officer to support the delivery of high‐quality tactical skills training across the state. Working under the supervision of the Senior Training Adviser, Tactical Skills, this role delivers firearms, tactical skills and chemical agents training to custodial officers and instructors, ensuring programs meet agency standards and compliance requirements.
Responsibilities include: delivering firearms, tactical skills and chemical agents training to new and existing custodial correctional officers and QCS instructors; ensuring training is delivered consistently, safely and in accordance with agency procedures, policies and accreditation requirements; contributing to the design, review and implementation of instructional and assessment standards that support statewide consistency across all tactical skills programs; evaluating training delivered by centre‐based instructors and guiding them to ensure compliance with agency expectations; analysing training evaluation data and identifying opportunities to enhance curriculum and delivery; supporting mandatory training compliance and coordinating training calendars; maintaining safety during high‐risk training activities; reviewing staff injuries during training; completing system reports; managing the safe storage, transport and issue of weapons, ammunition and munitions in accordance with relevant legislation; conducting armoury audits.
Qualifications
* Experience and a detailed understanding of the correctional centre operational environment.
* Knowledge of adult learning principles and their application to tactical skills training.
* Understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements in the context of high‐risk training delivery.
* Strong planning and organisational skills to coordinate training in line with agency schedules.
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and operate effectively within a team environment.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deliver high quality training.
