Located 130 km southeast of Tennant Creek, our client's family-run station spans nearly a million acres and supports a predominantly Droughtmaster composite herd. They are a close-knit family of six who are passionate about the land, cattle, and the unique lifestyle of the NT. The Southern Barkly region offers spectacular scenery, a solid sense of community, and the chance to truly live the outback experience.
Currently, two positions exist - one for an Experienced Station Hand and one for a Governess / Homestead Assistant. Both roles report directly to the property owners and work closely with other station staff and family members.
Governess / Homestead Assistant
- Teach a Year 5 boy in the schoolroom for the remainder of the school year (must be able to commit until year's end).
- Support and engage with a 3-year-old preparing for school next year.
- Assist with general homestead duties when not teaching.
- Encourage learning both in and outside the classroom.
- Create engaging, creative, and educational activities.
- Be bright, energetic, and proactive in getting things done.
- Help integrate the children into station life and outdoor learning opportunities.
Experienced Station Hand
- Mustering cattle using 4x4 vehicles.
- Yard processing and trucking of cattle.
- Operating earthmoving machinery - trucks, dozers, graders, loaders, excavators.
- Fencing repairs and construction.
- Fire management and firefighting.
- Mechanical repairs (welding skills highly regarded).
- Infrastructure maintenance and improvements.
- General station upkeep and practical problem-solving.
Selection Criteria:
- Maturity and strong communication skills.
- Reliability and a good work ethic.
- Willingness and ability to live in a remote location.
- Proven station experience (Station Hand role).
- Teaching or governess experience (Governess / Homestead Assistant role).
- Flexibility and willingness to help across different tasks.
- Positive attitude and ability to work well in a small team.
