Senior Manager – Business Services & Tax
We are partnering with a respected Melbourne-based advisory and accounting practice seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Business Services to lead a substantial client portfolio, mentor a capable team and play a key role in the ongoing success of the practice.
This is a key leadership role for an experienced public practice professional ready to take ownership of a large and diverse client group, lead and develop a capable team, and play a visible role in the continued success of the firm.
You will inherit an established portfolio with multiple entities and act as a trusted adviser to clients across compliance, tax, team leadership and broader commercial matters. This is a genuine senior role with the scope to influence workflow, improve processes and build strong long‐term client relationships.
What you'll be doing
* Manage a large portfolio of business services clients across multiple entities
* Review and prepare financial statements and tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, individuals and superannuation funds
* Oversee income tax, FBT and related compliance obligations
* Act as a senior point of contact for clients, providing practical and commercial advice
* Liaise directly with the ATO on client matters and taxation issues
* Delegate, review and manage workflow across accountants and senior accountants
* Mentor, train and develop junior and mid‐level team members
* Monitor lodgements, job budgets, deadlines and overall portfolio performance
* Research taxation issues and draft clear written advice
* Identify and implement process improvements and best‐practice ways of working
* Support a collaborative, professional and high‐performing team culture
About you
* Proven experience in public practice / business services accounting
* Proven capability operating at Manager or Senior Manager level
* Strong technical capability across financial statements, tax compliance and client advisory
* Experience leading, mentoring and reviewing the work of others
* Confident managing senior client relationships and complex stakeholder interactions
* Commercially minded, organised and able to run a portfolio with autonomy
* CA or CPA qualified, or close to completion, will be highly regarded
* Exposure to platforms such as Xero, BGL360 and MYOB AE will be well regarded
