Join the team on our Kwinana waste-to-energy facility site in Perth as the Director of Operations and Maintenance for Avertas Energy.

Avertas Energy is a co-development between Macquarie Capital and DIF. Our Kwinana waste-to-energy facility will switch communities to sustainable energy that provides a range of benefits.

The Director of Operations and Maintenance Role is to ensure that the project is being designed, constructed, commissioned and handed over in a manner that enables a seamless transition to operations and a long-term capability that is as robust as can be achieved within the Output Specification requirements.

**Role Requirement & Responsibilities**
- Interface management: You will be responsible for interfacing with the resources of the Owners Engineer, the Operators staff and other consultants. You will also work alongside and actively collaborate with a Technical Director, Commercial Manager, Ash Project Manager, and a Business Development Manager
- As an Operations and Maintenance Director, you will be responsible for the management of the Operator and EPC contractor
- You will organise regular reviews of the reporting requirements and summary reporting as well as establish meeting forums to ensure appropriate communications are occurring with external parties
- You will be able to coordinate and interface with local Authorities to obtain works approval and completion certification for gas and water connections
- You will be able to organise waste contract negotiations which will include liaising and interfacing with legal teams to agree contracts, interface with local Authorities/RRC and Permit Consent management
- You will be responsible for gas and water connections, obtaining the operating approval through the DWER and ensuring the regular updating of the Environmental Obligations register
- You will be able to provide inputs to the risk management matrix and use your experience and technical knowledge to assist with:

- Waste fuel classification and attractiveness or otherwise of particular waste streams, including additional processing requirements
- Explaining the technology behind Waste to Energy
- Developing appropriate solutions for ash by-products
- As the project is Australia's first WtE project, you will be required direct the project team to ensure the team pro-actively develops systems and information that can be used to improve outcomes on the next project

**Skills & Experience**

Ideally having the following:

- worked in Power Plant or complex process industries for 20+ years, preferably in Waste to Energy
- experience of working with wide range of Clients/Stakeholders e.g. Councils, private sector, Waste Authorities and Regulators at all levels from operations level through Senior Management to Executive level
- Degree qualified (minimum)
- Evidence of post degree CPD - Continuous Professional Development
- Complementary additional skills e.g. Health & Safety qualifications

**Qualifications**:

- Engineering Degree Mechanical or Electrical
- Additional Multi-disciplined skills basis (Electrical & Instrumentation)

**Experience**
- Able to relate to people of all levels from Operators through to Managing Directors
- Exposure to power generation for over 10 years. Preferably alternative methods of Power Generation e.g. Biomass, WtE, etc.
- Industry relevant engineering background in complex processes
- Extensive practical experience
- Experience of tender preparation/review (Contracts, etc.)
- Experience of Project Management
- Set up and operated under "systems" which have obtained ISO 9000:2000 & 14001 accreditation
- Have been involved in plant build/commission & start up at operator and management level
- Experience of recruitment of a team of people
- Experience of developing Commissioning & Operating procedures
- Experience of developing Operating Procedures, Maintenance Procedures, Risk Assessments & Method Statements
- Worked under and preferably set up Safe Systems of Work and Permit to work systems for numerous facilities
- Worked with and preferably set up Computerised Maintenance Management systems
- Worked with Local Authorities as clients
- Will be able to contribute from an early stage
- Dynamic individual with boundless energy and enthusiasm
