Role Description
The Disability Employment Counsellor – Finding and Keeping a Job is responsible for delivering participant-centred, disability-related counselling about education, training or employment supports under the NDIS Capacity Building category of Finding and Keeping a Job. The main purpose of the role supports participants to prepare for work, find suitable employment, and maintain employment where mainstream services alone are not sufficient to meet their disability-related needs. This includes discovery, building work preparedness and readiness, identifying strengths and barriers, supporting workplace learning, job coaching, travel training, employer engagement, and tailored strategies that align with each participant's goals, abilities, and stage of the employment journey. The role also includes designing and delivering employment-focused workshops, fostering strong relationships with employers, education providers, and community stakeholders, and maintaining up-to-date accurate records, measurable outcomes, and continuous improvement practices consistent with Blooming Supports' service standards.
Qualifications
* Relevant qualification in disability, community services, employment services, counselling, social work, psychology, education, human services, or a related field.
* Demonstrated experience supporting people with disabilities to build capacity, access employment, education, or training, and achieve individual goals.
* Experience in employment support, job coaching, case management, community engagement, workshop delivery, or transition-to-work programs is highly desirable.
* Understanding of the NDIS, participant-centred practice, goal-based service delivery, and documentation requirements relevant to Capacity Building supports.
* Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to participant, employer, education, and community locations as required.

* Strong ability to build rapport with participants, families, employers, educators, and other stakeholders.
* Excellent communication, coaching, and motivational interviewing skills.
* Ability to assess strengths, barriers, and support needs, and translate these into practical employment strategies.
* Strong organisational and administrative skills, including case notes, service agreements, progress tracking, internal audit for compliance, and outcome reporting.
* Confidence in workshop facilitation, presentation development, outreach, and follow-up.
* Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands, and contribute positively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Commitment to collaborative practice with the Blooming Supports team, maintaining clear communication, keeping calendars updated for safety, protecting participant dignity, upholding participant choice and control, and contributing to continuous improvement.
