Role Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school. Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIESWork as part of the senior leadership team to develop a clear vision for the College and provide strong leadership in implementing this vision.Provide effective and dynamic leadership of the team of teachers in the learning area, driving continuous improvement in curriculum design and delivery in line with contemporary educational pedagogy and the College's Instructional Model.Lead and monitor staff to:Embed the GWSC Instructional Model into everyday teacher practice within the faculty.Oversee and manage the documentation of all courses of study, ensuring alignment with DET, VCAA and the Victorian Curriculum.Ensure the agreed curriculum is effectively and consistently implemented by all teachers in the learning area, including differentiation to meet students at their point of need.Implement whole-school priorities.Lead the design and consistent implementation of effective formative and summative assessment practices, ensuring they inform student learning progress.Ensure College Compass School Resources and Learning Tasks are current, consistent, and accessible to all staff, supporting a cohesive, documented, and implemented curriculum, teaching, assessment, and reporting program.Ensure the College's assessment and reporting policies are effectively implemented, and provide direction and guidance on issues related to assessment and reporting.Provide opportunities within teams for benchmarking and/or moderation to support consistent assessment and reporting practices.Lead and implement faculty meetings that support a guaranteed and viable curriculum, embedding purposeful professional learning and structured collaboration.Provide oversight and strategic direction for the PLTs within the learning area.Provide leadership for subject selection within the learning area and collaborate strategically with the relevant Assistant Principal to support the course selection process.Lead the performance and development process for teachers within the learning area through the DET Statement of Expectation, supporting reflection, growth and continuous improvement in teaching practice.Foster a positive and professional team culture by proactively addressing concerns early and constructively, supporting individuals and teams to build capacity as needs arise (including in collaboration with Sub-school leaders), and escalating matters to the Assistant Principal where appropriate.Oversee the day-to-day organisation of the learning area, including ordering and managing appropriate resources, coordinating booklists, allocating mentors and providing support to mentors and their mentees, ensuring provision of work for absent teachers, overseeing faculty-specific OHS requirements, and overseeing excursions and incursions.Represent the learning area at extra-curricular events specific to the nature of the position.Work closely with the Assistant Principal and Timetabler to develop and maintain a staffing profile that meets the needs of the learning area and the broader College.Work collaboratively with the Assistant Principal on Human Resources matters, including staffing processes and recruitment, and provide leadership and support to staff in relation to role clarity, induction, and workforce-related matters as they arise.Other duties as directed by the Principal.Promote the Child Safe Standards. All schools have a Child Safety Code of Conduct consistent with the department's exemplar.Conditions of EmploymentAll staff employed by the Department and schools have access to a broad range of employment conditions and working arrangements.Appointment of successful applicants will be made subject to a satisfactory pre-employment conditions check.A probationary period may apply during the first year of employment and induction and support programs provided.Detailed information on all terms and conditions of employment is available on the Department's Human Resources website.Qualification Requirements To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class:The person must have provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching; andif the person completed an Australian postgraduate level initial teaching program or course of study on or after 1 January 2024, they must demonstrate that they have satisfactorily completed a postgraduate level accredited initial teacher education program that has been accredited by an Australian State or Territory Teacher Regulatory Authority as satisfying the requirements of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership 'Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures'; anda person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program after 1 July 2016 must also demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements (this condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian ITE program completed by the person).Applications close Tuesday 26 May 2026 at 11.59pm #J-18808-Ljbffr
