We're seeking an experienced Media Specialist to join a fast-paced, high-impact communications team on a short based contract. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys shaping narratives, and can confidently manage media relationships while delivering timely and accurate messaging. You'll play a key role in monitoring media activity, crafting communications, and supporting senior stakeholders through both proactive and reactive media engagement. Key Responsibilities Monitor news coverage, social media, and emerging issues Prepare daily media reports and briefings for leadership Draft press releases, media statements, Q&As, and event briefs Act as a key point of contact for journalists and media enquiries Coordinate timely responses and source quotes from leadership Develop talking points and brief executives ahead of interviews Plan and deliver press conferences, announcements, and media events Manage logistics to ensure seamless execution Identify and escalate potential reputational risks Handle reactive media requests and draft urgent statements Collaborate closely with marketing, social, and policy teams Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets Proactively pitch stories and identify media opportunities Technical Capabilities Prepare media kits, press materials, B-roll, and image libraries Upload media releases and updates to websites Use media monitoring tools (e.g. Isentia or similar platforms) Manage email distribution platforms for media outreach Coordinate broadcast requirements including satellite interviews About You You are a confident and resilient communications professional who can operate effectively under pressure while maintaining high-quality output. You will bring: 5-7 years' experience in media, journalism, or public affairs Experience within government or public sector communications (highly regarded) Strong background in crisis and issues management Proven experience managing media at events and announcements Relevant qualifications in Communications, PR, or Media Demonstrated ability to manage high volumes of media enquiries Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills Ability to work both independently and collaboratively High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability A proactive, self-motivated approach Current driver's licence (desirable) What You'll Be Working With A complex and fast-moving media landscape High-profile stakeholders and sensitive issues A collaborative team environment focused on outcomes Why Apply?
