About the Role:
The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking a Linux System Administrator at the APS6 equivalent (SFIA4) level to support the High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure.
In this key role, you will manage and ensure the performance, security, and integrity of the Linux systems within the ASD HPC environment.
This position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and collaborate closely with engineers, developers, and researchers.
As a Linux System Administrator, your responsibilities will include system administration, documentation, and supporting infrastructure projects.
You will work within a highly skilled, motivated, and dedicated team supporting ASD's high-performance computing capabilities, playing a pivotal role in achieving mission-critical outcomes for Australia's national security.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead or assist in system administration activities to support Linux and core services within the HPC environment.
Provision, configure, and maintain servers using lifecycle system tools and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
Write comprehensive system support and security documentation.
Collaborate effectively with HPC infrastructure project teams, technical and engineering staff, and various stakeholder groups.
Ensure adherence to best practices in system control and accounting, maintaining system integrity and performance.
About You:
We are looking for an individual with a strong foundation in Linux system administration and hands-on experience in high-performance computing environments.
You should have a proven ability to deliver complex systems administration tasks and work within multidisciplinary teams.
You thrive in dynamic environments, are self-motivated, and take pride in the security and integrity of the systems you manage.
The ideal candidate will also have:
At least 4 years of experience in medium-large enterprise or government Linux system administration.
Expertise in managing Linux Operating Systems such as Red Hat, Rocky, or Suse.
Experience with high-performance storage systems such as NAS, Object Storage, On-premise Cloud, and Parallel File Systems.
A strong understanding of networking technologies and topologies, particularly in HPC environments.
Ability to install and decommission HPC systems, hardware components, and related systems.
Experience contributing to complex technical project outcomes in a medium-large enterprise or agency.
Familiarity with continuous integration tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins).
Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Salt).
Experience with Foreman or equivalent administration systems.

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is a government agency playing a critical role in defending Australia against cyber threats.
ASD provides foreign signals intelligence, cybersecurity, and offensive cyber operations to protect Australia's national interests.
The HPC team within ASD designs, sustains, and builds infrastructure supporting ASD's core missions in production, testing, development, and research.
