About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic motion design academic to join the Department of Communication Design and make a strong contribution to teaching and research within Swinburne’s Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Design (Communication Design) (Honours), and Master of Design courses. This position will play a critical role in the overall student experience, teaching quality, and quality of graduate outcomes.
In this role, you will be acknowledged as an emerging design academic within your field of Motion Design, developing a reputation for innovation, high quality teaching and research, and will have demonstrated experience as a designer working with visual communication and motion-based media. You will have an understanding of industry needs and will be able to connect the school to the design profession contributing to the school’s objectives as a leading institution for design education, practice and research.
You will work in an interdisciplinary environment and be capable of making significant internal and external links with other academic disciplines, professional organisations, industry and government. Having a developing track record in gaining competitive research income, producing high quality research outcomes and conducting research in multi-disciplinary teams is essential for this role. You will carry out appropriate activities to maintain and develop your scholarly, research and professional expertise to contribute to the education of the next generation of design practitioners and leaders, and to the advancement of knowledge in a rapidly evolving social, cultural and technological field.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Demonstrated experience of tertiary teaching in design with high quality student outcomes.
- Proven ability to develop and manage curriculum and/or courses in design with outstanding graduate outcomes, and with a high degree of organisational and administrative skill.
- Demonstrated professional practice as a designer (minimum three years), strong professional networks and evidence of expertise in design.
- An emerging track record of high-quality research in communication design / digital media design or related disciplines, as evidenced by publications and/or non-traditional research outcomes.
- An emerging track record in attracting external research income through competitive grants and/or industry collaboration.
- Sound knowledge of the digital design environment, standard design software packages such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
Qualifications
- A doctoral qualification in Communication Design or related discipline, or significant professional experience in a related industry.
- Tertiary teaching qualification or equivalent is preferred.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body is preferred.
