The Role
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a full-time Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering and projects team. This is an entry-level role designed for a recent graduate who is eager to learn and build capability across the delivery of industrial process heat and onsite energy projects.
You will work under the guidance of senior engineers while gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle—from concept design through construction, commissioning, and handover—supporting safe, reliable, and efficient mechanical outcomes for our customers.

Key Responsibilities
As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at O'Brien Energy, your key responsibilities will include:
* Assist senior engineers with mechanical design and engineering support for boiler, steam, hot water, and industrial energy projects
* Prepare first-pass engineering calculations under supervision (pipe sizing, pressure drops, pump head, heat loads, equipment selection)
* Develop and update mechanical documentation including datasheets, schedules, scopes of work, calculation packs, and design notes
* Support development and QA of P&IDs, layouts, isometrics, and plantroom drawings in coordination with drafting
* Participate in Safety-in-Design and hazard/risk review processes and maintain engineering action registers
* Assist procurement by preparing RFQs, reviewing vendor submissions, managing technical queries, and contributing to bid comparisons
* Provide site support as required—verify installations against drawings, capture measurements/photos for as-builts, and respond to technical queries
* Support commissioning activities including check sheets, set-point verification, test result compilation, and troubleshooting support
* Compile project handover packs such as O&M manuals, certification documentation, commissioning records, and as-built drawings
* Maintain your graduate development plan/logbook and actively seek feedback and learning opportunities

Qualifications & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
* 0–2 years of relevant experience (industry placement or internships highly regarded)
* Strong foundation in mechanical/thermal engineering principles
* Ability to perform engineering calculations using Excel or similar tools
* Exposure to CAD/design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit/Navisworks or similar) favourable
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality
* Manual Driver's Licence
* Australian work rights and willingness to travel to customer sites as required
