As a Regional HSEQ Manager, you will play a key leadership role in driving Zero Harm excellence across our Energy & Utilities business. Partnering with operational leaders, you will embed a consistent and mature Zero Harm culture through proactive strategies, coaching, innovation, and best‐practice risk management.
You will work as a trusted business partner supporting, advising, and influencing at all levels to ensure our teams thrive while delivering safe, sustainable, and high‐quality outcomes for the communities we serve.
This is a senior role that champions a visible HSEQ presence, provides insight through meaningful reporting and analytics, leads incident investigations, shapes compliance, and facilitates continual improvement aligned with the Downer Standard.
With scope across multiple business units and regions, you'll be instrumental in leading transformation, uplifting Zero Harm capability, and ensuring our operational teams truly "own safety".
What we're looking for
We're seeking an experienced HSEQ leader who brings strong technical knowledge, credible influence, and a proactive mindset. You'll thrive in a dynamic, high‐risk operational environment and enjoy partnering with stakeholders of all levels.
Key skills, experience, and attributes include:
* Minimum 5+ years as a Health, Safety & Environment professional, ideally within construction, infrastructure, or other high‐risk industries.
* Minimum 2 years leading and developing high‐performing HSEQ teams.
* Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Health & Safety (or equivalent), with Lead ICAM and Internal Auditor qualifications desirable.
* Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, compliance obligations and risk management approaches, including Critical Risk and Bow‐Tie methodology.
* Demonstrated experience leading investigations, audits, corrective actions, and reporting.
* Advanced capability in data analysis and reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI).
* Skilled at influencing, coaching, and building relationships across diverse operational teams and senior leadership.
* High emotional intelligence, personal resilience, and a continuous improvement mindset.
* Ability to work flexibly, including occasional travel, overtime, or nightshift to support operational needs.
