Visiting Medical Officer in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery

Zero Hours, fixed term until 31 January 2027 (VMO Sessional/Fee for Service Determination)

About The Role

John Hunter Hospital is seeking an experienced Visiting Medical Officer in Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Surgery to provide contemporary, comprehensive specialist care across general surgery and the upper GI tract. The role includes elective and emergency operating lists, outpatient clinics, endoscopy, and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and surgical audit.

While the role is predominantly based at John Hunter Hospital, it involves providing specialist UGI services via consultation to the entirety of the HNELHD footprint.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver best practice, evidence-based clinical services in Upper GI (including oesophageal and gastric cancer) and general surgery.
* Provide supervision, teaching and clinical guidance to junior doctors and other staff.
* Participate in on call schedules as determined by departmental needs.

Essential Requirements

* Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in General Surgery.
* Completion of recognised UGI Fellowship (ANZGOSA or equivalent).
* Upper gastrointestinal malignancy specialist training and/or experience.
* Evidence of upper endoscopic management skills (desirable).
