Primary objective
As a senior member of the school's leadership team the Assistant Principal plays a key role in the leadership, development and
delivery of education programs to the Durack School community to achieve optimal outcomes for students.
Context statement
Durack School is an independent public school (IPS) located in the City of Palmerston, catering for approximately 550 students
(preschool to Year 6). The student cohort is composed of 9% Indigenous and 19% English as a Second Language students. As an
IPS, the focus is on quality teaching, high expectations, maintaining community partnerships and developing skills for the future.
The school's mission is 'A community that ignites curiosity and prepares children for the future'. Programs currently in place to
support this mission are an International School Partnership with Kansai International Academy, digital technologies, inclusive
practices, and students as agents of change, which includes student leadership and whole school restorative practices.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Mentor and coach staff in the analysis of data and delivery of effective educational programs to meet the needs of all students.
2. Provide leadership and support for the development, implementation and review of school policies, procedures, and strategic
planning to achieve maximum educational outcomes.
3. In collaboration with the Principal, provide leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum, wellbeing and
student engagement programs consistent with school and NT DoE policies and guidelines.
4. Work closely with the school and broader community to implement whole school programs.
5. Assist in the management of human, financial and physical resources in accordance with departmental policy, to meet identified
needs of the school community.
6. Undertake appropriate teaching duties and act for the Principal in their absence, as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven effective leadership and the ability to actively participate in the development and implementation of school policy and
strategic improvement plans as well as plan, coordinate and implement Student Wellbeing processes.
2. Extensive current experience and proven abilities in primary school teaching with a sound knowledge of current educational
theory, practises and pedagogy, including Explicit Instruction, Teach Like a Champion, Learning Through Doing and Talk for
Writing to support the delivery of quality teaching programs.
1. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively
with colleagues, parents, students and the wider community, including people from different cultures.
1. Proven effective conflict management skills in dealing with students, staff and parents.
2. High level adaptability and flexibility including demonstrated ability to manage pressure and change in a rapidly evolving
environment, and to modify approaches to suit different people and situations.
6. Demonstrated ability to build capacity within a school setting, specific to data analysis and discussion and coordinate the Data,
Reporting and Assessment school processes including overseeing the Data Management System, GradeXpert or similar.
