Countersight is a specialist cybersecurity company delivering security research, capability development and consulting services to clients within government and across the private sector. We are independent, Australian, and Canberra based but with the flexibility to operate Australia wide.
Our team works on interesting problems across the entire technology stack, from embedded systems to web and mobile applications, finding creative ways to deliver the capability our clients need.
The Role
Location: Canberra (Australian-based remote and hybrid arrangements available)
Hours: Part/Full-time
Salary: Competitive based on experience
Clearance: NV1 or the willingness/ability to obtain is desirable
At Countersight, whether we're engineering custom systems, building bespoke security capabilities, or delving deep into applied security research, the ability to build, customise, and reverse engineer software is vital. Our research directly powers our client work and, through that, contributes to capability that supports the security and prosperity of our community.
What you'll do
* Design and build: Create robust software and bespoke security tooling across cloud, on prem, embedded, and mobile environments.
* Research and discover: Conduct applied security research, including reverse engineering, vulnerability discovery, and protocol/firmware analysis across embedded/IoT, mobile platforms, and communications stacks.
* Prototype and prove: Develop PoCs, test harnesses, and instrumentation using to validate hypotheses and iterate designs.
* Operate and automate: Use DevOps toolchains and CI/CD to speed feedback loops and ensure reliability.
* Collaborate in small, autonomous teams: Tackle unique problems with wide latitude, adapt rapidly to new technologies, and share insights that flow back into client outcomes.
Our work spans a wide range of technologies, from embedded and IoT systems to mobile platforms and communications protocols. We are looking for people with experience in any of the following areas:
* Low-level programming in C/C++ and Go
* Full stack development (including UI/UX) in Node and React
* Mobile platforms & apps (Android/iOS)
* Linux and Windows internals
* Embedded/IOT systems
* Reverse engineering
* Vulnerability research
* Debugger and emulation tools & techniques
* Encryption technologies
Working in small teams to solve unique problems, this role would suit people that enjoy being given wide latitude to overcome technical challenges, are comfortable rapidly adapting to new technologies and are enthusiastic about expanding their skills and experience.
We're hiring from early career through to senior practitioners. Previous security experience is ideal, but if you're looking to step into security research and can demonstrate strong interest and foundational skills, we'd love to talk.
