Position Title: Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counsellor Classification: Social Worker G2 Y1 (SC21) to G2 Y4 (SC24) Salary per hour: Dependant on experience & Qualifications Employment Type: Ongoing part-time 32 hours per fortnight Award: Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise agreement 2021-2026 Role description An excellent opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced person to undertake the role of Alcohol and Other Drug Counsellor in the AOD team. As an AOD Counsellor you will assist in reducing harm to individuals and their families by conducting assessments and providing a range of counselling interventions. You will promote recovery by assisting clients and their family members to change harmful behaviours while increasing their capacity to effectively manage the challenges they are experiencing. To be successful you will need to demonstrate previous experience in a primary care or community setting. Demonstrated experience and/or ability to understand the needs of people experiencing harmful levels of substance use and the impacts of their use on the physical and mental health. Key responsibilities: * Intake and assessment of individuals seeking assistance for AOD related issues. * Provide centre-based counselling interventions. * Provide timely intervention, information or referral to suitable services. * Assist in assisting clients on waiting lists. * Establish referral pathways and linkages with other community services as needed. * Operate with a client-centred approach in which the clients' views about care are valued and client involvement in care decisions is meaningful. * Work with an evidence-based practice approach to care that integrates the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and client values. * Evaluate whether treatment/care has met client needs and been delivered as agreed with the client and any other care contributors. * Meet monthly targets and maintain systems for the collection of statistics and reports in accordance with funding body requirements. * Foster and promote a work culture that encourages open and effective communication and values * diversity and knowledge of differences to inform best practice care. * Actively participate in relevant case conferences and facilitate a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach to achieve optimal client outcomes and coordinated care.
