$110,110 - $114,980 plus superannuation and salary package

About the role The Family Violence Mental Health Practitioner provides therapeutic and culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal clients involved with Family Violence services who are experiencing poor mental health. The support provided includes comprehensive assessment of the individual’s needs, creating linkages with mental health supports and resources, providing education and secondary consultation around mental health, AOD, trauma and complex trauma, and case management support from initial intake through to closure.

The role will be integral for service development and improvement in the delivery of mental health and AOD supports within the Family Violence programs. Collaborating with the broader team to achieve better outcomes for community who experience poor mental health and/or AOD complexities.

All staff employed will be required to participate in learning and development to understand and apply evidence informed practice approaches including Cultural Therapeutic Ways.

About You

Understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA’s vision and purpose and the capacity to take a leadership role in championing these internally and externally

Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people

Strong knowledge and expertise in mental health, AOD, trauma informed approaches and culturally safe therapeutic interventions and response

Highly developed skills in secondary consultation, providing culturally led advice and guidance to professionals and care teams

Demonstrated experience in service development through coordinating review, identifying gaps and implementing improvements.

Ability to negotiate and build formal and informal partnerships to strengthen team relationships, promote the service to other VACCA programs, and improve mutually agreed client and community outcomes

An understanding of the range of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal services in the areas of family violence, mental health, and AOD

Well-developed interpersonal skills, and ability to adapt both written and verbal communication to the needs of different stakeholders, including community members, staff, and external partners

Requirements:

Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
