WA Country Health Service, Kalgoorlie Hospital is seeking Advanced Trainee Paediatric Registrars for Fixed Term appointments (6 or 12 months) commencing February 2027 with possibility of extension.

Position Profile
Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital, Rural Clinical School and WACHS (Goldfields) offer a unique training position for an Advanced Trainee in Paediatrics.
The position is based in Kalgoorlie and includes acute, emergency, neonatal high dependency care and outpatient paediatrics experience. 50% of time is allocated to teaching, research, academic and remote work. There is an opportunity to participate in remote area clinics.
Good communication and experience working with Aboriginal families are beneficial. The ideal candidate is passionate about Aboriginal and rural health, planning a career in rural and remote paediatrics.
Team includes experienced rural paediatricians, registrars, and RMOs. Strong resident consultant paediatricians provide close supervision and support with opportunities for independent practice. The term is 12 months; 6‐month terms can be considered.
Key Responsibilities
* 24/7 roster sharing with other junior doctors as first on call, supported by consultant second on call, including weekend covers.
* Inpatient cover for paediatric ward, maternity and SCN. Review of ED paediatric patients as required and admission.
* Outpatient clinic, remote clinic attendance including Griffith's clinic.
* Attend multi‐disciplinary team meetings fortnightly and ward review meetings and M&M meetings.
* Teaching of junior staff, hospital RMOs and medical students.
Requirements
Essential
* Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.
* Enrolled in Paediatrics Training Program, Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent, demonstrating satisfactory progression appropriate for an advanced trainee.
* Demonstrated current clinical experience in paediatrics and management of acutely unwell children and neonates.
* Organisational and time‐management skills, with highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
* Commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching of residents, nursing staff and medical students.
* Commitment to clinical governance (Patient Safety and Quality), quality assurance, continuous improvement, and clinical research in paediatrics and adolescent health.
* Understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Respect Framework.
* Current C Class driver's licence and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
* Experience or interest in rural paediatric practice.
Desirable
* Possession of current Advanced Life Support, Advanced Paediatric Life Support, or Emergency Management of Severe Trauma certificates.
* Demonstrated ability to monitor and review own effectiveness.
* Experience working with clients from a variety of cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
Salary and Benefits
* Registrar Year 1‐7: $158,041 to $210,963 p.a. (includes base salary $128,760 to $175,802, professional development allowance $11,721, 12.5% employer‐contributed superannuation).
* Senior Registrar Year 1‐2: $231,259 to $241,750 p.a. (includes base salary $188,817 to $198,142, professional development allowance $16,747, 12.5% employer‐contributed superannuation).
* All rates increment by 3% on 3 September 2026.
* Superannuation increased to 12.5% on 1 July 2026.
Other Conditions
* This position requires a Western Australian Working With Children (WWC) Check.
* WA Health requires criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process.
* Completion of satisfactory Pre‐Employment Health Assessment (PEHA) required; unsatisfactory PEHA will result in withdrawal of offer.
