Duties
Pilot Plant Operations
Support the Principal Engineer to plan pilot plant trials
Supervise operators during shifts and coordinate shift handovers.
Provide practical process engineering support during pilot plant trials, including process control, sampling, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
Support the Principal Engineer to assess pilot plant performance, including data collection, analysis and technical reports
Support preparation of the pilot plant for operation and post-run tasks
Process Documentation and Engineering Support
Develop and maintain process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, SOPs and mass and energy balances.
Provide engineering support to FEED and scale-up studies, including input into equipment selection and process design.
Laboratory and Small-Scale Experimentation
Design and execute laboratory-scale trials, including test planning, setup, operation, and data analysis.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and small-scale rigs used for process validation and proof-of-concept testing

Selection Criteria
Essential
Tertiary qualifications in chemical, process engineering or a related discipline.
Hands-on experience with pilot plant or process plant operations and associated turnaround activities.
Able to develop, interpret and apply technical documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, SOPs and engineering calculations.
Able to analyse complex and ill-defined plant or laboratory data, and develop appropriate responses by testing alternative solutions.
Able to cooperate with others to achieve objectives, including external suppliers and contractors.
Able to adapt to the dynamic operating environment of a start-up company conducting process development by adjusting strategies, goals and priorities
Able to uses knowledge of other party's priorities and adapt presentations or discussions to appeal to the interests and level of the audience.
Able to recognises where endeavours will make the most impact or difference, decide on desired outcome and set realistic goals to reach this target.
Desirable
Passion for innovation and process development
Experience handling and managing high-risk chemicals such as HF, oleum, or concentrated H2SO4.
Previous exposure to pilot-scale, R&D, or first-of-kind process plants.
Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and chemical safety regulations.
