Environmental Consultant / Assistant

Location: Somersby, NSW Central Coast

Are you a recent earth science graduate and ready to kickstart your career locally on the Central Coast. This is a rare opportunity to join a small, professional environmental consulting team, where you can grow, learn, and make a real impact. The ideal candidate will be a recent earth science graduate. More experienced candidates are also welcome to apply, with remuneration to reflect your experience.

This is a hands on role where you will be personally reponsible for learning and completing a variety of day-to-day tasks including both field and office duties. The position is intended to provide training and experience to develop a range of professional capabilities, including:

* Ecological and human health risk assessment including soil, water and gas investigations demonstrate land use suitability or to develop remedial plans.

* Interpreting legislation to develop site management strategies.

* Scientific report writing and communication.

* Site investigations to develop waste management options for cost effective legislative compliance.

* Supervision and management of site remediation projects.

* Environmental monitoring, including air quality, noise and vibration.

* Policy interpretation to assist planning proposals and construction logistics.

While technical skills are important, a willingness to take personal responsibilty for learning, initiative and motivation to establish a career has even greater significance. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication abilities are also essential.

The role is based in Somersby on the NSW Central Coast with regular travel to Sydney, though the opportunity is also available for occasional trips to regional NSW and interstate. On the job training is provided with an experienced industry certified specialist and support from other team members. Further formal education is also supported where appropriate, based on agreed outcomes and the willingness of the candidate to develop their skills.

Qualifications

Environmental/Earth Science or Environmental Engineering Degree.

Ideal Candidate

* Attitude: The ability to demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop a professional career.

* Skills: Self-motivated, problem solver with attention to detail, strong data interpretation, risk assessment and legislative comprehension. Ability to undertake labour intensive work.

* Experience: Some understanding of environmental monitoring, soil / groundwater assessment or policy interpretation is beneficial.

* Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of relevant legislation (NEPM, POEO Act, CLM Act, EP&A Act, WHS Act) and geological systems, including hydrogeology.

* Attributes: Professional demeanor with the ability to communicate effectively with everyone from the site shed to the boardroom.

* Safety: Ability to work safely and independently on construction sites, on remote sites and a willingness to learn.

* Availability to work additional hours when required.

* You will be required to drive a company vehicle so a license with good driving record is essential
