Game Development Officer - Regional Queensland

The AFL is Australia's premier sporting organisation supporting two constantly evolving national competitions, AFL and AFLW. Our purpose is to progress the game, so everyone can share in its heritage and possibilities.

We have a strong workforce presence in most States and Territories of Australia including Northern Territory, QLD, NSW / ACT, Victoria and Tasmania.

As the AFL/ AFLW competitions continue to grow and evolve at both the elite and community levels, we are focused on ensuring we attract and retain great people in both permanent and casual roles at all levels and within all areas of our industry.

Importantly, we aim to reflect the communities where our game is played by recruiting locally where possible to strengthen our connection to the 'grassroots' of our game. We are also fortunate to have hundreds of passionate volunteers within our industry, offering their time and expertise to help grow our game.

The AFL's purchase of Marvel Stadium in Docklands, Melbourne, further diversifies our workforce with more than 1000 casual employees to make every moment matter for our fans and customers.

Game Development Officer - Casual Role (Regional Queensland)

In preparation for 2026, AFL Queensland is calling on Game Development Officer's to join the team on a casual basis.

Inspire Active Kids | Lead with Passion | No AFL Experience Needed

We're looking for passionate, community-minded people across Wide Bay to join our team as Game Development Officers.

Whether you've played Aussie Rules, rugby league, soccer, netball, cricket, or you have no prior sporting experience - your experience is valuable with us. You don't need to know AFL; you just need a love for sport, a positive attitude, and a passion for helping kids stay active and connected through team sport.

Our team will be taking a short break over Christmas and New Year, so we'll start reviewing applications from 12 January 2026, with interviews kicking off the week of 19 January.

As a Game Development Officer, you'll play a vital role in introducing kids to the game, many for the very first time and helping sport be more inclusive, fun, and accessible.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Game Development Officer, you'll be out in the community helping kids get moving and feel part of something bigger through team sport. Your week might include:

* Delivering fun, skills‑based sessions in schools and clubs – we'll teach you the AFL activities, you bring the energy and engagement.
* Running Auskick or Superkick programs that help kids build confidence, make friends, and love being active.
* Supporting community events and game days, creating positive experiences for kids and families.
* Championing inclusion, working on programs that support multicultural communities, girls in sport, Indigenous programs, and kids of all abilities.

Role Type and Hours

Flexibility and Impact: This is a casual role, perfect for those who thrive in dynamic, community‑focused environments.

Hours vary depending on program periods, with a mix of short, two‑hour sessions and longer blocks during peak periods. Whether you're available during school hours, after school, on weekends, or a mix of everything – we've got opportunities to suit a variety of schedules. Most shifts occur:

* During school hours for school programs and competitions
* Before or after school for Auskick and Superkick sessions
* Occasionally evenings or weekends for community events

What We're Looking For

You don't need to be a footy expert, we're after people who are:

* Confident, enthusiastic, and great with kids.
* Strong communicators who can engage with schools and families.
* Reliable, independent, and proactive when working solo.
* Open to learning new skills and AFL activities.
* Hold (or can obtain) a valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
* Have a driver's licence and reliable transport.
